Surface coating is a process done to make the surface of the roads more durable and smooth by covering it with asphalt emulsion and gravel. The surface coating can be single-ply or multi-ply. In a single layer surface coating, asphalt emulsion and stone chips are laid once. In multi-layer surface coating, asphalt emulsion and stone chips are laid more than once to obtain a higher quality surface.

The application of surface coating consists of the following stages:

The road surface is cleaned.
Asphalt emulsion is sprayed on the base material.
Gravel is laid and rolled.
In multi-layer surface coating, asphalt emulsion is sprayed again, gravel is laid again and rolled.
