The repair of asphalt and concrete road cracks has also been specially developed for use with the upper waterproofing banding method. It is also suitable for ensuring the waterproofing of concrete and asphalt joints. It has been specially developed for regions with hot climate conditions.
BIGUMA® – RSH It has excellent flow and adhesion properties, is stable under direct sunlight, flexible, and resistant to cold. The seal does not stick to the wheels; deflection is minimized.
| Application Temperature | Approximately 180°C |
| Specific Gravity | approximately 1.28 g/cm3 |
| PrimerIf | necessary COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund |
| Delivery Method: | 35 kg cans |
MELTING: BIGUMA- RSH should be heated indirectly and carefully to the application temperature in a tank equipped with mechanical stirring, indirect heating capability, and a thermometer. The temperature of the sealing element should be thermostatically regulated. This temperature must always be controllable. Overheating of the sealant must be prevented; otherwise, the plasticizers added to the product for stability and improvement will be damaged, and the softening point (ring-ball) will generally decrease.
PREPARATION: Cracks should be cleaned with hot high-pressure air lances and/or cut and shaped, and then cleaned as described above. All loose debris should be removed, and the asphalt in the crack area should be heated to make the existing bitumen adhesive. No primer application is required in this method.
PRIMER: If necessary [e.g., on concrete surfaces], the COLZUMIX® Haftgrund primer, specially developed for BIGUMA®-RSH, shall be used. For the filling and coating of joints, the sealing element is normally applied to the crack with a trowel. Trowels of different widths shall be used depending on the dimensions of the crack. The sealing compound is thin at the application temperature specified above. It merges with the heated bitumen as it advances into the crack; part of it remains on the surface and covers the outer part of the crack. This overlap provides protection around the crack and prevents bonding failure that may occur at the crack edges, especially in hot weather. Care must be taken to ensure that the sealant completely fills the crack and that no settling occurs.
The application thickness for crack sealing is 2 to 3 mm. Application should only be carried out in dry weather and at surface temperatures above +5°C.
SURFACE FINISH: To improve skid resistance and for the appearance of the final layer, dry fine gravel (1/3 mm) or bitumen-coated gravel (color matching the coating color) should be spread over the hot sealant.
